تلعب الأماكن العامة دورًا أساسيًا في تعزيز جودة الحياة في المدن. ولكي يتم تحقيق هذا الهدف، يجب مراعاة احتياجات السكان المتنوعة في تصميم الأحياء السكنية والأماكن العامة. وقد برز مؤخرًا توجه عالمي يشجع على التفكير في فئات السكان المتنوعة واحتياجاتهم عند تصميم المساحات العامة. وبهذا الصدد، يسعى المعهد دعم البلديات في نشر ممارسات تشجع على تصميم أماكن عامة أكثر حيوية واستجابة للاحتياجات الانسانية لكافة فئات المجتمع.
